Creek Audio has always been a fan of the vinyl disc. For those consumers who have an interest in enjoying this alternative source of high quality music, there are few amplifiers equipped to deal with this as standard. The Creek Destiny Integrated Amplifier is designed to accept a plug-in Phono module to enable vinyl reproduction. The module must be fitted inside the amp, in place of the Auxiliary Line input.
The Destiny amplifier is supplied as standard with a bridging link inside that connects the input sockets through to the pre-amp in the same way as its other LINE level inputs. However, when the link is removed, a Moving Magnet or Moving Coil pre-amp can be plugged-in allowing the first input (Disc) to be used to amplify a signal from a turntable.
The circuitry cannot be switched for MM or MC so the correct module must be chosen to match the cartridge fitted on the turntable. The Destiny amp will indicate Disc, by changing the colour of the LED on the front panel showing Aux/Disc input when the Plug-in module is fitted and that input is selected.
The circuitry used in the Destiny Phono pre-amp is completely different to the EVOLUTION and OBH types. It consists of three stages to break the gain down into blocks and separate the RIAA equalisation into two stages, both passive and active, for increased overload margin. 0.1% accuracy resistors and <1% tolerance capacitors are used to achieve a very flat frequency response.
To allow the Phono pre-amp to be fully DC coupled, a DC servo amp is connected to the output buffer circuit to reduce any offset voltage to zero. The output buffer prevents any change of impedance on the output, caused by a change to the volume control position from affecting RIAA circuit.
This is Creek’s highest quality Phono stage and is only available for the Destiny amp. It is not possible to use the EVOLUTION Phono pre-amp in the Destiny as the PCB connections are not similar.
